Does CBD Help Reduce Methamphetamine Withdrawal Issues?

Stigmatizing drug use and treating drug addiction as a crime are both wrong. Drug addiction should be treated as a serious public health issue and not as a criminal justice issue.

Part of battling drug addiction issues is implementing meaningful strategies for mitigating harm and helping people that are addicted to harmful substances work through withdrawal issues as they quit.

Methamphetamine is a substance that is considerably more harmful compared to cannabis. Meth is very addictive and can wreak havoc on a person’s life. Meth is often combined with other harmful substances and the use of it can lead to death.

CBD Study

Researchers in Iran recently conducted a study in which they explored the potential for cannabidiol (CBD) to help people that are trying to quit using methamphetamine.

“In this review article, we focus on the effects of CBD in the treatment of addiction in a preclinical investigation concerning the pharmaceutic effectiveness and the underlying mechanisms of action on drug abuse specially METH.” the researchers stated.

“Through multiple-mechanisms, there is a belief that CBD modulates brain dopamine responding to METH, resulting in a reduction of METH-seeking behaviors.” the researchers went on to say.

“As our studies indicate, CBD can decrease METH addiction-associated problems, for example, symptoms of withdrawal and craving.” the researchers concluded.

The Safer Choice

As stated previously, no one should ever be shamed for their drug use, whether that drug use involves methamphetamine or not. With that being said, people should also be helped when they are trying to curb addiction.

CBD is non-psychoactive and by all measures is a safe substance. It is widely available and is now infused in all types of products, from gummies to tinctures to beverages.

Talking to a friend or family member that is battling addiction is not an easy task, and it takes tact, compassion, and understanding. If you feel comfortable discussing the matter with someone you know, offer up CBD as an option for battling withdrawals.

In addition to this study, other studies have found that CBD may be helpful in battling other types of addictions as well, including addiction to cigarettes and alcohol – two substances that are also more harmful than cannabis.

Damian Marley International Cannabis Business Conference ICBC Barcelona

The International Cannabis Business Conference Is Coming Back To Barcelona

The International Cannabis Business Conference is the leading cannabis B2B (business to business) event series on the planet, with previous conferences occurring in several countries on multiple continents. The event series is owned and operated by cannabis advocates that believe in celebrating cannabis culture, in addition to providing world-class cannabis industry education and networking opportunities.

The rich cannabis history and culture in Barcelona, Spain make it the perfect backdrop for the next International Cannabis Business Conference being held on March 10, 2022. The conference is co-sponsored by Bhang Inc and Grow Glide. The International Cannabis Business Conference has once again partnered with Spannabis, Europe’s top cannabis expo, to form another superconference that is a must-attend for anyone that is serious about succeeding in the emerging cannabis industry. At the conclusion of the superconference, the International Cannabis Business Conference will host one of its world-famous after-parties. This year’s after-party will be sponsored by Cansativa.

“We needed to collaborate with a leading company in the cannabis business sector, with experience also in Europe, and ICBC has all the knowledge to be able to make such an event in Spain. We have no doubt that our combined event will be a success and many of our attendees will be grateful to have a B2B event of this quality.” Spannabis organizers stated.

Spannabis organizers went on to say, “Feria del Cáñamo (Spannabis) has been in the cannabis sector for more than 18 years and is much more than just a fair. The Spanish cannabis industry has more potential every day, and is taking firm steps to improve Spain’s laws. Spannabis organizers believe that the time is right to offer reliable information on the economic potential of the cannabis sector and the viability that Spain would have to become one of the key countries in Europe.”

Spannabis previously teamed up with the International Cannabis Business Conference in 2019 to form a superconference, and the collaboration was a tremendous success. The 2022 superconference will be bigger and better than ever, with the collaboration event being the largest of its type in Spain.

“Spannabis is not only the biggest Cannabis fair in Europe, but the biggest in the world. The Spannabis brand name is iconic, and we are honored to be partnering with such a long-time and important institution,” states Alex Rogers, Executive Producer of the International Cannabis Business Conference.

“Spannabis is the meeting point for the entire European cannabis scene. It is first and foremost a consumer event, however, many folks who attend are also looking for a B2B element. The ICBC’s partnership with Spannabis fills this gap and satisfies a clear need for major cannabis industry players to meet, network, and to progress and advance the industry as cannabis laws are liberalized in Spain and across the continent.” Rogers said.

This year’s International Cannabis Business Conference event in Barcelona will feature a one-on-one fireside chat with acclaimed entertainer Jim Belushi. Jim Belushi is a man of many talents – actor, singer, comedian, dancer, and now a legal cannabis farmer. Join Jim Belushi and journalist Micha Knodt as they have a one-on-one discussion about Belushi’s career, cannabis advocacy, and his current cannabis industry endeavors via Belushi’s Farm and its famous signature brands. Belushi and Knodt will also discuss Belushi’s new hit Discovery Channel cannabis reality show ‘Growing Belushi’.

Cannabis-Infused Eye Drops May Treat Rare Form Of Dystonia

It is always a very irritating feeling when a person gets something caught between their eyeball and their eyelid, especially when they can’t seem to get it out. The same is true when a person’s eyelid twitches due to them being tired, stressed, or having too much caffeine. In a vast majority of those cases, the discomfort and irritation goes away fairly quickly.

Unfortunately, some people have to deal with those situations on a frequent basis. It is a rare, bilateral condition known as benign essential blepharospasm. It is unknown what causes the condition, which involves muscles around the eyes and eyelids spasming uncontrollably.

A team of researchers in Israel recently conducted a clinical trial using cannabis-infused eye drops to see if the cannabis delivery method could effectively treat benign essential blepharospasm. Below is more information about it via a news release from NORML:

Tel Aviv, Israel: The administration of cannabis-infused eye drops reduces spasms in patients diagnosed with the progressive neurological disorder benign essential blepharospasm (BEB), according to placebo-controlled data published in the journal Graefe’s Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology. BEB is a rare type of dystonia that is characterized by the abnormal blinking or spasming of the eyelids.

A team of Israeli researchers compared cannabis-infused eye drops versus placebo in patients with BEB over a period of several weeks. Cannabis treatments were associated with significant reductions in the both the frequency and duration of patients’ spasms.

Authors concluded, “Medical cannabis can be an effective and safe treatment for BEB as a second line after BTX-A injections when used for three months. No significant ocular or systemic side effects was associated with the treatment.”

Full text of the study, “Medical cannabis oil for benign essential blepharospasm: A prospective, randomized controlled pilot study,” appears in Graefe’s Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology. Additional information on cannabis and dystonia is available from NORML.

Cannabis Associated With Better Quality Of Life According To Brazilian Researchers

Cannabis is medicine. That is a phrase that seems straightforward given the countless suffering patients around the world that rely on medical cannabis for relief, as well as the enormous body of cannabis research that already exists.

However, for many decades cannabis prohibitionists around the globe did everything they could to suppress cannabis research and to prevent the world from knowing about the cannabis plant’s therapeutic properties. Public policies at all levels of government, from local to international, were based on greed and politics instead of being based on actual science and compassion.

Sadly, there are still people on earth that continue to fight to block cannabis research, claiming that the cannabis plant is bad for humans and that it possesses no medical value. Unfortunately for them, international research continues to increase and knowledge about the cannabis plant continues to spread, including a recent study out of Brazil which found encouraging results regarding quality of life outcomes and cannabis use. Below is more information about it via a news release from NORML:

São Paulo, Brazil: Cannabis consumers report better mental health and quality of life outcomes than do non-users, according to data published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research.

Brazilian investigators surveyed a convenience sample of 7,491 self-identified marijuana consumers and 839 non-users. Participants’ responses were scored using standardized scales to assess anxiety, depression, quality of life, and subjective well-being.

Those respondents who identified as regular, but not problematic users of cannabis, scored highest on the scales, followed by more occasional consumers. Both groups scored higher on the scales than did those who abstained from marijuana. Those subjects who perceived their cannabis use to be problematic scored lowest on the scales.

“Even after controlling for possible confounders such as demographics and the use of other psychoactive drugs, occasional or habitual self-perception of cannabis use remained associated with better outcomes of quality of life and mental health,” authors concluded.

They added, “[The] results obtained in this study are particularly relevant because they were obtained from a sample predominantly composed of habitual cannabis users from the general population, a group less frequently represented in other surveys. Except for self-perceived dysfunctional cannabis use, the association between cannabis use with an increased risk of adverse health outcomes was not observed in the present study. It is possible that these adverse outcomes, generally described in many other studies, may be due to publication bias or the fact that our survey data collection strategy predominantly targeted recreational cannabis users.”

Full text of the study, “Mental health and quality of life in a population of recreational cannabis users in Brazil,” appears in the Journal of Psychiatric Research.
